Emergency Laparoscopy

Immediate, High-Precision Care for Surgical Emergencies

Dr. Neha Dagade specializes in Emergency Gynaec-Endoscopy, providing rapid and life-saving surgical interventions for acute pelvic and abdominal conditions. Her expertise in minimal access surgery allows for immediate diagnosis and treatment of emergencies with significantly reduced recovery times compared to traditional open surgery.

What is Emergency Laparoscopy?

Emergency Laparoscopy is the use of "keyhole" surgical techniques to address sudden, severe abdominal or pelvic pain that requires immediate attention. In an emergency setting, laparoscopy serves a dual purpose: it acts as a diagnostic tool to identify the exact cause of pain and as an operative tool to resolve the issue in the same sitting.

Dr. Neha Dagade is equipped to handle a wide range of acute conditions using advanced laparoscopic equipment:
A life-threatening condition where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tube.

1.Laparoscopic Management: The pregnancy is removed, and whenever possible, the fallopian tube is repaired (Salpingostomy) or removed (Salpingectomy) to prevent internal bleeding.
2. Ovarian Cyst Accidents
  • Ovarian Torsion: When an ovary twists around its supporting ligaments, cutting off blood supply. Emergency laparoscopy is used to "untwist" the ovary and restore blood flow, saving the organ.
  • Ruptured Ovarian Cyst: Addressing internal bleeding or irritation caused by a burst cyst (such as a hemorrhagic or chocolate cyst).
3. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) & Abscesses Severe infections can lead to the formation of pus-filled pockets (Tubo-ovarian abscesses). Laparoscopy allows for the precise drainage and cleaning (lavage) of the pelvic cavity.
4. Acute Appendicitis in Women Since symptoms of appendicitis often mimic gynecological issues, a laparoscopic approach allows Dr. Dagade to visualize both the appendix and the reproductive organs, ensuring an accurate diagnosis and immediate removal if necessary.

The Advantages of the "Keyhole" Approach in Emergencies

In an emergency, the benefits of laparoscopy are even more pronounced:

  • Superior Diagnosis: Provides a clear, magnified view of the entire pelvis, which is often more conclusive than a rapid ultrasound or CT scan.
  • Minimal Trauma: Vital for patients who may already be in shock or physically compromised by pain.
  • Reduced Adhesions: Minimizing internal scarring is crucial for preserving the future fertility of young patients.
  • Shortened Hospitalization: Patients recover much faster and can return to their families and work sooner than with a large abdominal incision.
